on Colin Dunne’s Concert
The long tunnel of dark and light of sounds funneled from hand to hand towards loud feet, quiet mouth, tongue out a plenty and an affirmative murmur to himself to close each episode of dancing. This is a man dressed in casual date-wear; Long sleeved cotton tee, Unbelted black jeans (slightly too long) Converse (no socks) An approximately boyish look… A tensely jovial opening to the 2017 Dublin Dance Festival. The man-boy welcomes the audience and explains his dance in patches of light; an athletic ministry of shadow, shuffle, pounce flesh blurred to indigo. Backward thrown Conversations In-head play; this is the tradition, man to man when we get down to it, the conversation bland and repetitive; justification, philosophy of art, music touching the infinite… ‘I react against repetition’ the great diddley-aye debate… who made it so smoke-eye? This guy and his man-tweaked conversation… Technology and light. Who are we getting closer to? And why have they Bared themselves here? Shuffle the deck Split the pack Whichever way you cut it out pops Tommy Potts You will not leave with any doubt about his significance… The guy seated and lit with a mellow deep yellow strips his top off both layers at once! and replaces it with something a little more dressy aka a light cotton shirt… This guy front manning his own band all night feet mainly, some cat hand elbow whip tongue lip body outlined in delicate brightness blurring the deck of cards and more Tommy Potts! and hard shoes then, very tap, tap bounce make smithereens of time and then even more Tommy Potts and bigger! this time projected in black and white and end; both men disappear in utter black and still. Emma for DRAFF Concert by Colin Dunne is running at Project Arts Centre as part of Dublin Dance Festival until 20th May.
